Service Description

Keep it in COCA* is the Guardians of our Children initiative where the team interviews parents who have successfully utilised aspects of the court process to achieve, or at least, shift their children’s trajectory towards a high level of co-parenting. These online interviews are invitation only and held on the last Wednesday of each month. KiiC#1 – Changeovers [August] We speak with parents whose COCA changeover went horribly wrong which pushed them out of COCA and into the Crimes Act. We discuss how they were found not-guilty of assault with intent to injure and hear their tips on how to Keep your case in COCA. KiiC #2 - Self-Litigation [September] The team interviews a mum and a dad from two separate cases who had successfully self-litigated right up to their final hearings. We hear how they now have a wonderful relationship with their children and happy with their current co-parenting dynamics. KiiC#3 -Section 136 [October] We hear from a dad whose own research into COCA led him to section 136 as an alternative to the section 133 Cultural Report. S135 allowed him to bring in a family member to speak to the courts about the importance of child’s whakapapa which could only be strengthened by more meaningful contact with her dad and the wider whanau. KiiC#4 - Protection Orders [November] This month’s discussion explores the definition of family violence and how easy it is to get a protection order against you. What does it mean? How does it impact your life? Can you win in COCA even with a protection order against you? How to manage supervised contact and how to eventually get it discharged.
